The Oasis

Here we are having breakfast at the Oasis. It is the coffee house/cafe to go to in Georgetown. I indulged in my 1st cup of coffee and a croisant since in Guyana. It was a real treat. We had a fun breakfast. While drinking coffee and waiting to eat in walks some missionaries that live a couple of hours down the road from us. They were coming from the airport picking up her parents and stopped to eat. We enjoyed meeting them. Some how the parents looked so much more refreshed and together than we did when we arrived and they came from as far as Vancouver, BC. As we were being introduced to them an Aussie overhears our conversation and comes over to meet us. He had studied in Australia and has been traveling the world for the past three years. He said he has met brothers everywhere. He said that while in Mongolia he met brothers that were of course able to tell him if a road had anything at the end of it. We know the territory all over the world. He seemed genuinely excited to talk with us. He introduced us to some of his companions. One woman worked for the European Union and was frustrated with the corruption in Guyana. We were able to explain how we help people on an individual basis. It was a fun conversation. Later Bro. Hollenbeck the missionary bro. comes back over to talk to us. He was asking where we were from ect. This bro and his wife at one time had to be evacuated out of Africa because of unrest. It was fun to find out that we know the same people. He is a canadian. Our good friends the Shermans that were our neighbors when we lived on Box lake are friends of theirs. They were in Vancouver at one time together. Also when he was at Bethel Fred was his overseer. Such a small world in the truth. He also told us that the Dagastinis were now in Israel. We certainly hope we see them again before we leave. He of course mentioned our sisters Danielle and Abi and the good they are doing in the sign language, very encouraging to hear a good report about our local sisters. After the Oasis we headed to get our Lethem bus tickets. We ran into a bit of a snag. They said we needed our passports to book a ticket:( uh oh, Dave pleaded in our behalf, we live so far away,.........and soon we walked out with our tickets:) After that we stopped at a coconut cart and got coconut water. It is good and refreshes you when it is hot and you feel depleted. We were able to witness a bit to him also. He asked where we were from. Canadians are always more popular in other countries than Americans. This man liked the health care system in Canada. He then talked about the injustices of how sick people are treated etc. We were able to share Jer. 10:23 with him and share a few more thoughts. Seems like you always have to be ready for a witness here. Then we shopped:) Dave and Jennifer said they would wait a couple of more weeks before they would reveal their opinion of us. lol But we can only say they are a great hard working couple. So humble, patient and easy going.
Today I am staying home. I feel terrible because we are suppose to clean the hall for the memorial. But on Thursday night after the meeting I got something in my eye. I don't know if it was an ember from the fire next door, or a stinging bug? But by yesterday afternoon it was starting to get infected. I'm staying home today to try and keep it clean and nurse it with drops. Hope that helps, If not the drug store gave me the number to an optomologist to get a prescription. Boring.......
Thanks for driving Dave. We still can't remember what side of the van to get in on let alone drive on the left side of the road from the right side of the vehicle

Fast food in Georgetown before we head home. Fried chicken basket meal:)
