Good Faith, Mahaicony Guyana

We are up and running in Mahaicony (my-cony) like my-pony. The trip was long and exhausting. But when we arrived the two need greater couples were here cleaning. Later a meal was prepared for us with fresh cold water. A terrific couple our neighbors down stairs. Noel and Amy are from Ireland and England. They attend the next congregation over. They are hoping to go to gilead when they have been married long enough. They would do excellent anywhere they were sent. Dave and Jennifer are in our congregation and have been helping us alot. I was so brain dead on Friday that I just couldn't think to make a grocery list. Jennifer sat down with me and helped me write a list and then took us to Alishas to shop. Very different from Hood River hoitey toitey Safeway. Every thing is behind bars and you talk through a window and rattle off what you want. When you ask for a bag of chips you get a lunch size bag. I think we have it down now. There are produce stands here and there. We love the grapefruit and pineapple. Reggie bought a yam off the truck that came by two days ago. It looks like a big dirt claude. It makes your hands feel pitchy when you handle it. But.....it made the best fries when fried in olive oil. That was dinner last night. We like our house, I'm sure it is a high standard for here. We have a nice tiled bathroom and a veranda off the front and back door. The humidity is stifling, but there is a constant breeze that helps. We are getting used to it. Animals are everywhere in the streets. Cows, donkeys, pigs, sheep, goats and chickens....a real farm on the main highway. The traffic flows dangerously fast with almost no law or reason, everyman for his self. So it took a couple of days to understand this free for all and now we are getting more comfortable with the way things are. When you go to bed at night you might here a little hindu music over concert speaker or perhaps a little Hank Williams or Kenny Rogers even ToTo. (We like it all here.) yes, we brought ear plugs, even I need them. So over all this noise how is it that the local people talk so softly? Beats me, but they seem to understand each other. Reggie is catching on. I did ok on Jennifers bible studies understanding the creol but some people it is an impossibility for me to comprehend. So far that is the biggest challenge, understanding. Every one says it will come. I hope so:) We had a little donkey born next door on March 1st. We have fun watching him run and buck. We have given him our own name.... Mordecai So these are some of the sights and sounds around our place. Next blog I will try and talk more about the people.Love to all back home, Kelly and Reggie
